Natural Marble and Porcelain Panel — A Short Material Definition
Natural marble forms in the earth's crust and is cut and processed straight from the quarry; every slab carries its own vein and colour pattern. Porcelain panel is a man-made building material produced by sintering clay, feldspar and mineral powders at high temperature (above 1200°C), mimicking natural stone's look through digital-print technology.
Large-format porcelain panels have started gaining favour, particularly on housing developments and office buildings, thanks to the lower load they place on the sub-frame and their production consistency — but because the two materials have different physical properties, each should be assessed on its own technical profile during the decision process.
Simply labelling these two materials 'natural' and 'artificial' and sorting them into good-bad is misleading; both can deliver a long-lasting, safe result when engineered correctly and used on the right project.
