Marble and Granite — A Short Definition
Marble is a natural stone formed when limestone undergoes metamorphism under high heat and pressure. Its calcite- and dolomite-dominant structure gives marble its characteristic veining and typically lighter, warmer tones. Turkey holds a significant share of the world's marble reserves, offering a wide range that includes Afyon white, Muğla white, Burdur beige and Denizli travertine.
Granite, by contrast, is an igneous rock formed as magma cools slowly beneath the earth's crust. Its crystallised structure of quartz, feldspar and mica gives granite higher hardness and density than marble. Granite typically has a speckled appearance, with some varieties (Star Galaxy, Black Galaxy) showing striking mineral crystals.
