Turkey — EU Customs Union 1996: Duty-Free Stone Import
The Turkey — European Union Customs Union has been in force since 1 January 1996, covering industrial goods including HS 6802 processed natural stone (marble, granite, travertine, onyx). Turkish processed stone enters the EU-27 duty-free under the A.TR movement certificate — no tariff, no EUR.1 preferential paperwork, no separate customs union access negotiation. The underlying framework is the Ankara Agreement 1963 and the 1995 Customs Union Council Decision 1/95 (source: European Commission trade page on Turkey, Turkish Ministry of Trade Customs Union publications).
For United Kingdom shipments (post-Brexit), the Turkey — UK Free Trade Agreement in force since 1 January 2021 provides equivalent duty-free access under the EUR.1 movement certificate. The A.TR is not applicable to UK shipments — the FTA framework is separate from the EU Customs Union.
